Senior Wellness for Your Dog

Celebrating the Bond Between You and Your Pet.

Senior Wellness Recommendations from Your Veterinarian

The Veterinarians at Gilbertsville Veterinary Hospital recommend that they examine your senior pet every 6 months.  During your pet’s examination the doctor’s will perform a nose to tail examination looking at your pets eye and mouth and listening to their heart and lungs.  Click on the image to read the full details of your pets physical examination.

Heartworm and Flea & Tick Prevention are an important part of keeping your pet healthy.  We can bring fleas into our pets environment even if they do not go outside.  Using heartworm prevention keeps your pet from getting heartworm disease and also has some deworming benefits.  Click here to read more about prevention and rebates.

Laboratory Profiles

Your senior pet may look healthy on the outside but having your pets bloodworm performed on a regular basis helps the doctors detect and protect your pet from common diseases that affect older pets.  the senior profile includes a CBC, Chemistry, Thyroid, Urinalysis, Fecal and Accuplex.  Click the image for more details on the profile.

The doctor’s recommend that your pet stays current on their Rabies and Distemper every 3 years and Lyme and Leptospirosis vaccinations every year.  If your pet is around other pets on a regular basis at dog parks, daycares, boarding or grooming facilities you will also want to have your pet vaccinated for Bordetella and Canine Influenza.  Click here to read more about the individual vaccinations.
